Best Recliners with Ottoman: Reviews

1. Flash Furniture Contemporary Multi-Position Recliner with Horizontal Stitching and Ottoman – Editor’s Choice

This attractive chair and ottoman set comes with a birch base and taupe faux leather. It provides firm support for those who prefer that to a cushier chair.

The chair is stable because of its high-quality base. The tilt means it cannot serve as an occasional table. It still might be okay for use as a stool by some people. They are both a fixed height. The recliner has tons of leveling adjustment options.

For best results, do not use harsh cleaners. Wipe down with a soft, dry cloth periodically. Sop up spills promptly.

The set is lightweight and easy to move. It would work well as a transitional piece or as “shared” by two rooms, moving as needed to where it is needed.

Some assembly required. Includes universal pictorial instructions without written words. Easy to assemble.

Is this Model Recommended?

Recommended for individuals who prefer a firmer seat.

  • Easy to follow, universal pictorial instructions.
  • Comfortable but firm chair.
  • Works well for taller individuals.

  • Some assembly required.
  • No storage.

2. Newport Taupe Swivel Recliner and Slanted Ottoman – People’s Choice

This set comes in your choice of black or taupe and has a generous headrest built-in to the chair. This recliner is one of the most comfortable models with the ottoman.

Some of the ottomans contain storage and some do not. Some reviewers were apparently confused by this at the time of purchase and thought they bought a set with storage in the ottoman but did not.

If you want a set with storage in the ottoman, that’s not this specific set. That’s one of these two models: Kyle Ruby Red Faux Leather Ottoman and Swiveling Recliner (also comes in Ivory White) or Morgan Stucco Faux Leather Ottoman and Swiveling Recliner.

They are all three great furniture sets. Just make sure you pay close attention to which one you are buying.

This chair is made of easy to maintain faux leather. It swivels 360 degrees and reclines up to 45 degrees.

The ottoman is slanted, so it cannot be used as an occasional table. It slants enough that it probably also cannot be used as a stool by anyone. It does not have storage and is a fixed height and does not swivel.

This is a slightly more upscale version of some of the earlier sets. It weighs a bit more and has a price to match the higher quality.

Is this Model Recommended?

Recommended if you want a higher quality set in this style. Recommended if you want a generous headrest area.

  • Generous headrest support.
  • A more upscale version of this general style.

  • No storage in ottoman.
  • Ottoman cannot be used as a stool or occasional table.

3. Mid Century Modern Lounge Chair with Ottoman, Mid Century Recliner Chair  – Best High-End Replica Premium Choice

This set is a replica of the famous Eames recliner and ottoman set. It is not a perfect replica but costs far less than an original Eames while providing a comparable look.

This chair is real leather, not faux leather. It’s a luxurious item and will need appropriate care.

It comes in your choice of five color combos: Black Walnut, Black Ash, Black Palisander, White, or White Ash. Note that the first word describes the upholstery and, where there is a second word, it describes the wood tone of the pieces.

The chair is at a 15-degree angle and cannot be adjusted. It is a fixed position. The chair swivels, but the ottoman does not.

The ottoman for this set is level and more generous in proportions than others under review here. It potentially makes a really good stool and may work well as an occasional table when paired with a tray.

The chair is low slung. Make sure that’s what you want because it is not height adjustable. The maximum weight capacity for the chair is 330 pounds.

Some assembly required. The necessary tools are included, but you should make sure you read the instructions first. Do not assume that you can just wing it.

Is this Model Recommended?

Recommended if you want the high-end look without the high-end price tag. Recommended if you want a real leather chair, not a faux leather chair.

  • Fantastic designer looks without the designer price.
  • Made with real leather.
  • The generously sized ottoman is level, making it multi-functional.

  • Some assembly required.
  • Make sure you read the instructions first.
  • The angle is not adjustable.
  • No storage.

4. HomCom Ergonomic Faux Leather Lounge Armchair Recliner And Ottoman Set – Cream White – Best Metal Frame Set

This is a very budget-friendly set with a metal frame. It comes in your choice of three colors: Black, brown, or cream.

The chair features a 360-degree swivel, plus a lockable knob to select your favorite reclined angle from 90 to 145 degrees. The ottoman is stable, neither tilting nor swiveling, and gives you as much or little legroom as you need.

In addition to being stable, the ottoman is reasonably flat and a fixed height, which will help it do double duty as extra seating. It’s flat enough that the addition of a tray would allow it to serve as a casual table.

It is waterproof, easy to clean faux leather. Just wipe it down with a damp cloth to clean it. Spills can be wiped up quickly and easily.

It is a contemporary design that will go well with a spartan living room, a cushy office, or a dorm room. It’s also easy on the pocketbook, all the more reason to consider it for a college dorm or similar setting.

The chair gets rave reviews from people both short and tall. This is one of the advantages of getting a recliner with an ottoman: It naturally adjusts for height.

Is this Model Recommended?

Recommended if budget is a major concern. Good choice for a small space. Recommended if you desire a set with a metal frame instead of wood.

  • Easy to assemble.
  • Terrific price.
  • A very comfortable chair that works well for various heights.

  • Some assembly required.
  • Sits lower to the ground than some people like.
  • Ottoman has no storage.
  • The chair is not height adjustable.

5. Giantex Folding Lazy Sofa Chair w/Ottoman – Best Casual Comfort Set

This model is an extra-plush and has a very stable ottoman with four legs. If you are looking for something super cushy, this may be the chair for you.

It comes in your choice of two neutral colors: Coffee or Grey. Both the chair and ottoman have four legs instead of a central pedestal for extra stability.

The ottoman can work well as a casual stool for extra seating, but the top is not flat enough to pair with a tray and use as an occasional table. Of course, it can be used to lay things atop casually, such as an open magazine, but you will need to make sure you have an actual table handle for drinks or the like.

The ottoman does not come with built-in storage, but the chair has side pockets. This will let you conveniently store small items, like a TV remote, a book or magazine, or small toys for the kids.

The back and headrest are both adjustable to help you custom fit the recline position for maximum comfort. The back offers four positions and the headrest offers six.

The chair can be folded down to help it stow it away, making it a potential option for “extra” seating that isn’t in use full time. It’s also lightweight to facilitate treating it as optional seating to be moved as needed.

The weight capacity of the chair is 330 pounds. This means that you may be able to use it as a place to read to a grandchild as they sit on your lap or nurse a baby.

Some assembly is required, but you only need to attach the legs to the two pieces. For most people, this will be about a ten-minute job.

The chair and ottoman are low to the ground and not adjustable. If you prefer a tall chair, this may not be the best choice for you.

Is this Model Recommended?

Recommended if you want a fairly cushy recliner chair and ottoman set. A great choice if you prefer the stability of four legs instead of a central pedestal. Recommended if you want furniture that is easily stored away for occasional use.

  • Four legs on each piece give added stability.
  • The chair has storage pockets.
  • The chair can be folded down for storage purposes.

  • Some assembly required.
  • The chair does not swivel and is not height adjustable.
  • Ottoman does not have built-in storage.

Buyer’s Guide

A recliner with a matching ottoman is very different from a standard recliner with a built-in footrest. Here are some things to consider when going the ottoman route.

Ottoman’s routinely get used as extra seating at parties or family gatherings. They can be especially appealing to children due to fitting their small frame better than some of the grown-up seating options.

Ottomans are frequently used similar to occasional tables. You may find yourself placing items atop them, such as the book you were reading when you had to get up to answer the door.

If they are fairly flat, they can be used more intentionally as tables by placing a tray on top of them to provide a hard surface. This can allow you to have a drink or snack nearby, even if there is no table close by.

Ergonomic Flexibility

If you have family members of very different heights, an ottoman may work better than a built-in footrest. It provides some flexibility for pulling it closer to the chair if you are short or pushing it farther away if you are tall.

Some ottomans are also height adjustable. This can provide an extra element of ergonomic flexibility.

Some angled ottomans can have their angles adjusted as well. This, too, gives extra ability to customize the fit and comfort to various individuals.

Hidden Storage

Some ottomans provide a hidden storage compartment. This is sometimes true even for fairly small ottomans.

Large ottomans with storage may hide away bulky items like pillows and blankets. Small ottomans with storage may only hold small items, like a pen, notepad a favorite magazine.

Built-in footrests never offer hidden storage. It’s simply not an option.

Our Best Choice

Our favorite is number 1. Flash Furniture Contemporary Multi-Position Recliner with Horizontal Stitching and Ottoman. You cannot beat the great price and the flat ottoman gives it more multi-functional potential than most of the others here.

  1. I own a recliner and I bought one with an Egyptian cotton robe draped over it (you can get novelty robes) because my old one was leather and I hate leather.

  2. As someone who is a huge recliner person, I don’t know if the throw pillows will be comfy against your legs. What if you need some help with the massage oils? I might even need the comfort. Just a thought.

  3. There’s a Recliner company that designs their seats with an arm rest that flips up for use with a traditional Ottoman like Flash Furniture.

  4. Also, book can be placed on a shelf on the side of the recliner, it is much easier to use a shelf as compared to putting a book on the cushions or sticking it on the side where the recliner is sitting.

  5. If you want something nice and different, have the cover draped over the chair, or on the chair with the robe and then hide the chair with your groceries.

  6. I’ve found the best recliner and can’t wait to bring it over for anyone to use. But first, I bought Mid Century Modern for test, and this chair have comfortable back support

  7. Find one with a removable headrest. Then you can use it as a pillow. It’s still comfy though.

  8. Don’t buy the Oriental! Usually they have foam padding that fits over the base and is in the shape of a tent. That way you don’t have to rub your face or your neck!

  9. Most recliners are made with plastic frames that stretch out the seat and make it wobble. These make me so uncomfortable when I’m resting my elbows on my knees, it’s like being in a hammock. Newport Taupe Swivel is very durable with steel frames and it’s very comfortable

  10. I assume they’re not ‘just’ recliners, if they come with an arm rests then I would definitely get the ‘new’ one rather than the used one.

  11. Check out Flash Furniture Contemporary. Their recliner are extremely high quality, and their armchairs are really solid as well. Basically, don’t expect bad leather

  12. My advice would be to make sure they’re sturdy. Like is it a two piece thing? Can one piece support the top half?

  13. I am sitting in a recliner, but have only been up a few times, I really think it’s better to get one with a Turkish robe on it and just relax in a recliner with a good book/coffee.
